When joining a new community, it can take a little time for residents to feel at home. Thankfully, Resident Ambassadors at Paul’s Run like Arnie Escourt and Edith Bennett are there to offer them a warm welcome and helping hand. Whether it’s showing new residents the dining facilities, introducing them to activities, or answering questions about daily routines, Resident Ambassadors provide the peer-to-peer support that helps newcomers feel included and comfortable as they are settling in.

Fostering connection with friendly smiles and kind words

“We welcome and greet them,” said Resident Ambassador Edith Bennett. “I like to talk to people, and I like to be helpful. Some people are shy and need to have somebody take them to the first couple of dinners. Some are looking for Christian or Shabbat services.”

Edith assists new residents by helping them find the laundry and gym, introducing them to entertainment and activities, and connecting them with the spiritual

community. “There is something for everybody,” she said. “Arts and crafts, mind games, music, and a wonderful library.”

It’s in the library where you will often find Resident Ambassador Arnie Escourt. When he’s not writing poetry, at a fitness class, or singing in the choir, he’s busy showing new residents around.

“I’m a friendly guy,” he said. “After people get here, I try to familiarize them with what’s going on. I save them an open seat at dinner. I also go through all of the activities with them.”

Providing peer support can make all the difference

Resident Ambassadors are at the heart of Paul’s Run’s vibrant community. Together with the staff, they create a welcoming environment to ensure:

  • Smooth transitions that help lessen the emotional and practical challenges of moving to a new community.
  • Social interactions that reduce isolation and cultivate a sense of belonging.
  • Strong peer connections among residents that create an inclusive, supportive environment.
  • Good communication between residents and staff.

It’s not just the facilities, services, and activities that make Paul’s Run a thriving community. It’s Resident Ambassadors like Arnie and Edith who are dedicated to helping newcomers navigate their unfamiliar surroundings and creating a sense of comradery.

“We’re a family here,” Arnie said. “We look out for each other. We take care of each other.”
